Overview

HBC (Hit By Car) trauma causes blunt force injury: broken bones, internal bleeding, ruptured organs (bladder/spleen), and road rash ("degloving").

This condition requires veterinary attention.

If your animal shows the Key or Common signs listed, please visit a clinic immediately. This is a life-threatening emergency.

Transmission

Trauma.

Progression & Stages

Shock immediately. Signs of internal damage (bruising/bleeding) may appear hours later.

Diagnosis

Triage exam. "A-B-C" (Airway, Breathing, Circulation). X-rays/Ultrasound.

Treatment Protocols

Treat shock (fluids) first. Pain control. Surgery for fractures/ruptures once stable.

Prevention

Leashes and Fences.

Prognosis

Variable. Many recover fully if they survive the initial shock.
