Rabies is a uniformly fatal viral disease affecting the nervous system. It is zoonotic (spreads to humans) and transmitted via saliva (bites).

Prodromal (behavior change). Furious ("Mad dog"). Paralytic ("Dumb" form). Death occurs within 10 days of symptoms.
Post-mortem examination of brain tissue (DFA test). No live test exists.
None for animals. Euthanasia is legally mandated for symptomatic animals.
Vaccination is legally required and 100% effective.
Fatal (100% mortality once symptoms appear).
